Pinterest Tag Setup

Before you set up the Pinterest tag, you’ll need to:

  1. Log in to your Pinterest business account.

  2. Click the Business Hub menu in the top left corner.

  3. Under Business, click Conversions.

  4. Click Get Started.

  5. Select connection source: Pinterest tag only.

  6. Since we are not currently an integrations partner, you’ll go with the manual setup.

  7. You’ll land on the code page. Instead of copying the code, you’ll just copy the Pinterest Tag ID in the top right corner of the page.

Product Pins

After your Pinterest Tag is setup, you may also want to consider uploading your products to Pinterest as product Pins. Product Pins are specially formatted to let people who are browsing on Pinterest know that they're shoppable. They contain a product title and description, as well as pricing and availability info.

While this step is optional, uploading your product catalog as Pins allows you to promote them across Pinterest as shopping ads. You can find a walkthough on uploading your product catalog here. We make it super easy by providing the right file format that Pinterest expects so your product catalog syncs automatically with Pinterest after you’ve set it up.

Here’s the format:

  • Using a Big Cartel URL:

  • Using a custom domain:

Again, while not required, adding your catalog is recommended if you want to place shoppable ads on Pinterest.

Heads up!

Pinterest supports a more limited set of events compared to Facebook and Google Analytics. As it pertains to e-commerce, Pinterest only supports page visits, add to cart, completing checkout. Facebook and Google offer more robust events such as tracking beginning checkout, adding shipping info and adding payment information. You can read about their events on the Pinterest help site.
