If you’re seeing an error in your Big Cartel admin saying your Stripe account can’t accept payments—don’t worry. That usually means Stripe needs a little more information from you to verify your account. Here’s how to get things sorted and start accepting card payments again.
Step 1: Complete Stripe Account Verification
One of the most common causes is that your Stripe account setup isn't fully complete or verified.
To check your status:
- Log in to your Stripe Dashboard.
- Go to the Verifications section to see if Stripe is requesting any additional information.
- If your account is verified and you’re still having issues, reach out to Stripe directly from your dashboard using chat or by requesting a call.
You can also refer to Stripe’s website checklist to ensure everything is in order for your store.
Once you’ve resolved any pending requests, Stripe should automatically reactivate your ability to accept payments.
Note: Stripe may ask for additional info after signup, such as a government-issued photo ID, business details, or tax information. Keep an eye on your email, or log into your dashboard to check for alerts.
Step 2: Check for Account Review or Suspension
If everything in your Stripe dashboard looks complete and verified, but charges are still disabled, there may be a deeper issue.
Stripe might temporarily disable payments if:
- Your shop falls under prohibited business categories.
- Your account has been flagged as high-risk due to fraud concerns or unusual activity.
Since these decisions are made on Stripe’s side, your next step is to contact them directly:
- Log in to your Stripe account.
- Go to the Help section to chat with their team or request a phone call for quicker support.
Once you get any unresolved issues cleared up, Stripe should be re-enabled, and you’ll be all set to accept card payments in your shop. If you’ve double-checked everything and still see errors, feel free to reach out to us and we’ll help guide you from there.
