Jobs

Made by artists, for artists

We believe if you give a motivated and creative person enough freedom they can do amazing things. We believe a group of these people can change the world. We believe a lovingly crafted product can thrive in a world of mass-produced junk.

Benefits

Work with a passionate group of makers, where the best idea wins. We trust you to do great work and manage your own time.

Work anywhere

We’ve got beautiful offices in downtown Salt Lake City, and can help relocate you. Or, maybe you already love where you live, that’s cool, you can stay right there.

Generous PTO

We encourage you to take about 4 weeks off per year. If you’re sick or something comes up, take the day off. If you’re going on vacation, give us a heads up.

Stay healthy

We’re committed to a solid work–life balance to keep your mind healthy, and medical, dental, life, and vision insurance for the rest.

Family leave

We have your back when life-changing events hit close to home. You can just focus on your personal life, knowing your job and income are secure.

Vacation reimbursement

Our time-off policy isn’t all talk. You’ll get reimbursed for qualified travel expenses when taking off from work and unplugging for a full week.

Charitable match

We’ll match your donations, dollar for dollar, to qualifying non-profit organizations focusing on art, culture, science, or technology.

401(k) with match

We’ll help you build your retirement nest egg, for when you’re ready to hang up your mouse.

Funded personal projects

We offer our Employee Art Grant to invest in your creativity. You come up with an idea and we fund it.

Keep learning

We’ll cover any books you’d like to read or conferences you’d like to attend that will help you do your job better.

Face time

Anyone can fly out at any time to meet up with their team on a project, and we bring everyone together a few times per year.

The best tools

Great artists need great tools, and a MacBook Pro (or Air) with a 27" Thunderbolt display should do the job nicely.

Build something

Work with a passionate group of makers, where the best idea wins. We trust you to do great work and manage your own time.

Indie Fest is Big Cartel’s annual company retreat where we relax, get to know each other, and plan for the year ahead. In 2015, the whole team met in Ojai, CA for a week of good times and a little hard work.

Join the team

Be a part of our team of makers, doers and thinkers who work together to support nearly a million artists.

Senior Front-End Developer

More info

We have an opportunity for a Senior Front-End Developer to join our small but mighty team. We’re looking for an experienced developer who loves being the glue between designers and back-end developers. Someone with immaculately clean coding skills, an obsession for details and fast load times, and a passion for bringing an idea to life — from comp to browser.

In addition to working on our main product and service application, you’ll also have your hands in a variety of small projects and tasks, like:

  • documenting, prioritizing, and fixing bugs
  • assisting our support team with technical issues
  • deploying marketing releases for our community team
  • helping QA our releases to ensure they’re ready to ship
  • building and maintaining internal tools to help us work better

More than anything we need someone who wants to help artists make a living doing what they love. Big Cartel is home to nearly a million designers, musicians, makers, and other artists. Your work will be a critical part of keeping them happy and productive.

This is a full-time and salaried position that includes all of our awesome benefits like paid family leave, solid insurance, 401(k), and a generous PTO policy (we encourage you to take 4 weeks off!). You can work remotely from anywhere in the United States, but extra credit for joining us in SLC.

We also feel it’s important to point out the obvious here – there’s a serious lack of diversity in our industry and it really bugs us. That’s why we’re doing everything our small company can do to change that. We hope to continue to build a company whose culture promotes inclusion and embraces how rewarding it is to work for artists of all types all over the world.

Requirements

  • Strong HTML 5, CSS 3 and Javascript skills - all standards compliant, cross-browser, and cross-device
  • Using MV* patterns to build large-scale applications
  • Experience with BEM methodology
  • Ember (preferred) or other Javascript frameworks (AngularJS, Backbone, etc.)
  • A sharp eye for design and UX details
  • Remote pair programming using vim+tmux
  • Git and GitHub Experience
  • Self-motivated and able to efficiently run with a project
