The response to our Financial Relief Fund has been overwhelming and, honestly, heartbreaking. It is absolutely gut-wrenching that you and so many others are in such need right now, and I truly wish we had more money to give.
In just a few short hours we received over 12,000 requests for funds, if we helped everyone that would be less than $5 per person, so we made the difficult decision to stop taking new submissions. This decision will allow our small team to more quickly sort through existing applications to get funds into people's hands faster. I know that is disappointing, and it is not what we expected, but it is the reality we are dealing with unfortunately.
If you are in the United States I strongly encourage you to look into offerings from the federal government. As part of the CARES Act both small businesses and self employed individuals can qualify for up to a $10,000 grant as a part of the Economic Disaster Loan program through the Small Business Administration ("SBA"). Even if your loan is denied you will be able to keep the grant if you qualify. The application process is simple, completely online, and should only take about 15 minutes to complete. (You can view a sample application on this website.)
We're keeping all of the Big Cartel community in the forefront of our hearts and minds. As a company, we are completely focused on ways to support our community and I promise we will continue to do our best to help you all through this scary and uncertain time.
